CODE OF CONDUCT

And Wil Wheaton didst proclaim to his fellow nerds the greatest axiom of our time: "Don't Be a Dick".

Keeping Our Community Safe and Healthy

We have shared our official community policies here to be transparent about the values we enforce and how you are protected as a member of the Nerdsmith community.

This is a social contract between our Network and our users to keep our community safe and inclusive. These policies are subject to change or update as needed to best fit the safety needs of our community members.

These rules apply to Nerdsmith-affiliated social media channels, including but not limited to our Discord, Facebook, and Twitter spaces.

Our Community Members...

Are Respectful

We are all here to have a good time in a safe community. Our community members help us do that by treating others with the kindness and consideration they want for themselves. They listen and apologize if they make a mistake, and do better in the future.

This respect includes but is not limited to:

    • Fellow Community members
    • Showrunners, cast members, and characters
    • Moderators
    • Directors

TROLLING AND TEASING: Just like in our games, consent is important in our community spaces. Please avoid humor or pranks at another person’s expense, unless you have an established rapport with each other to do so. Trolling for the sake of trolling is not in the spirit of the respectful community we’re trying to build. Ask yourself if the other person (or the audience) is in on your joke. If they are not, don’t make it.

Use your best judgement, but if you see an interaction that you think may be in bad faith, please feel free to alert our moderating team in a private message. One of our mods may reach out to check in if they see teasing like that occurring in chat, to make sure everyone is okay.

…Are Good Humans

They do not condone, speak, or act with racism, homophobia, transphobia, or related behavior.

Members who don’t abide by this policy will have their offending posts removed and receive a warning from admin/moderator. They will be banned from that Nerdsmith space for repeat offenses.

They use each other’s provided names and pronouns.

Our community normalizes sharing pronouns in chat, social media, and during our shows. Nerdsmith aims to create a safe place for everyone to express their identity and gender if they are comfortable doing so.

…Follow Etiquette

They keep @everyone and @here notifications to a minimum in our chat spaces, to be kind to each other’s inboxes.

They check pinned Discord posts for rules and helpful channel information.

They mark/hide SPOILERS with the correct spoiler tags or limit them to the appropriate Discord channels.

They keep NSFW (Not Safe For Work) links, posts, images, and content in the appropriate channels, behind spoiler tags, and labeled accordingly. When possible, they provide a clear Content Warning description.

They do not SPAM.

They keep ALLCAPS messages to a minimum.

Our Content Creators...

…Act Professionally

They positively represent their show and the Nerdsmith name.

They keep to their content posting schedules, barring extenuating circumstances.

They don’t speak on behalf of the Network regarding marketing or business transactions. Specific folks are in charge of that.

They follow through with their commitments to their signed Nerdsmith Creator Agreement.

They follow through with their commitments to the people they collaborate with or commission. Directors may step in if one of our Nerdsmith Creators is not in good standing with the Network or another Creator.

…Are Considerate

Network Members (ie., creators from our In-House and Self-Produced Shows) are not eligible for Nerdsmith giveaways. Our prizes are intended as a thank you to our supporters, fans, and viewers.

(Please don’t apply for any raffles or giveaways UNLESS given expressed permission by a Director or moderator.)

…Are Respectful

to Community Members. We all wish to feel safe and welcome in Nerdsmith. Our Creators treat others with the kindness and consideration that they would want for themselves.

to Fellow Creators. We all work hard to make art we are passionate about. Our Creators support each other and respect our differences as well as our bonds.

to Their Fans. Our Content Creators are not entitled to anyone’s time or money. They are humble and gracious for their fans’ support.

to Detractors. If they are involved in a personal conflict, they take the high road as much as they can and find strength in their supporters and friends. (See “Act Professionally”).

However our Creators also…

…Promote Network Values

Nerdsmith supports uplifting and defending marginalized and disenfranchised people. Tolerance does NOT mean tolerating intolerance. Our Content Creators act professionally, but we respect anyone’s choice to stand up for those who can’t.

We ask that in the process of rising to the defense of others, that our Creators don’t lose the important part – that they  are supposed to defend others. Their actions should be for the good of the people who need it, not bring more harm into our community space.

Our Creators Uphold Nerdsmith’s Values

      • Providing free, quality, nerdy entertainment.
      • Supporting creators in realizing their passions and ideas.
      • Putting good out into the world through entertainment and charity.
      • Learning from mistakes and growing together.
      • Promoting and highlighting diverse, creative voices.
      • Inclusivity and kindness.

Have Fun!

Our Moderators...

…Enforce the Code of Conduct in our Public Spaces

Our moderating team helps us keep our community safe and supported by holding us all accountable –  Directors, Creators, and Community Members – for following the policies listed above.

Our Twitch livestream moderators look out for prohibited behavior in our Twitch Chat, including:

    • Negative comments or bullying towards performers
    • Sexually explicit or sexually aggressive commentary of performers (both positive and negative)
    • Sexually explicit or sexually aggressive commentary of RP characters and character artwork.
    • Repeated comments about the appearance or attractiveness of an individual PLAYER (singling one or more out) will get a warning and will be banned on a repeat offense.

…Respect Our Community Members

Our Moderators treat everyone in our community spaces with respect and kindness. They enforce our code of conduct so that everyone can feel safe and welcome in the Nerdsmith community.

Along with our Director Team, our Moderators try to remain consistent by following guidelines for conflict resolution, as listed below.

Conflict Resolution

If a user (specifically in our Discord community) breaks the code of conduct, Nerdsmith moderators and directors will take the following steps, in this order of escalation:
  1. Text Warning – a respectful reminder of our code of conduct
  2. Text warning – a more severe warning that a repeat offense will be handled with a discussion with Nerdsmith Director(s)
  3. Video call discussion of conduct – including an action plan to correct the behavior (could be as simple as the offender verbally agreeing to cease the behavior)
  4. The offender will be banned from the Discord server, either temporarily, to allow a cool off period before continuing conflict resolution, or permanently. This choice is open to the discretion of the moderator and director teams.
NOTE: We may at our discretion skip or alter these steps based on the severity of the infraction, and some behaviors may be subject to permanent ban (such as using slurs or hatred towards the marginalized such as race or sexuality.)

In disputes between members, the following process should be taken, in this order of escalation:

  1. Members may attempt to clear up the dispute between themselves via private conversation (such as “DM”, Direct Message). We want to encourage and empower our members to try this first. Moderators may be available or help in navigating one-on-one interactions with advice or support if requested.

  2. Members may ask for a director to become involved with the dispute, who will assess the situation and if it warrants further action, will proceed to:

Speak with the second party.

OR

Meet with both parties to discuss and resolve the issue.
