Seldanna was spending her evening in her bedroom, reading from her personal collection of books and indulging herself in an old elvish history text she had already read twice before, so why not a third? According to what she had read from Bahl’s Tome, it was worth rereading texts of old to catch truths you may have missed before.
Her solitude was short lived when Jastra let herself in, with the usual air of haughty superiority she always held, to inform her of a dinner guest they’d be hosting for the evening. Hosting was never one of Seldanna’s strong suits, but being the quiet and polite young lady she was raised to be, it was easy for her pass off as per her training. At least that quiet demeanor kept her out of certain troubles.
When the time came for the guest to arrive Seldanna made her way down to the dining room to greet and be friendly. The last person she ever expected to see seated at her table was Bezel dressed in a small jacket with tails and a bowtie, no doubt one of many custom designs for him. His grinning and chilling politeness towards Seldanna unnerved her as he behaved as though it was their first meeting, which for all Seldanna prayed for that was what her mother would think. It seemed to appear so when Jastra behaved delighted at introducing the two and discussing what an honor it was to have Bezel share such a personal secret. Jastra always seemed to enjoy learning new secrets….
From an outsider’s perspective, the dinner went well and contained pleasant conversation between the Arasys’ and Bezel as they discussed the usual business higher-ups in Cinderhaven discussed with it be personal businesses or rumors milling about the city. From Seldanna’s view, it was the most nerve-wracking meal she had in decades.
At odd intervals in conversation Bezel would mention or say something in Seldanna’s direction that would appear as teasing, but they both knew his words referenced to their meeting in Clover House. The subtlety of his words gave Seldanna enough room to breathe knowing her mother nor father would catch on to his meaning though there were a few moments she was sure her parents knew what they were discussing. She did her best to either ignore the feydragon’s words or take them as he spoke, doing her best to not give way her personal paranoia of being found out.
The minutes felt like hours and hours felt like years as Seldanna waited to the time to come for Bezel to finally excuse himself and took his leave from the Arasys estate. Her mother still delighted in new secret that the family was involved in and her father simply nodding along with what his wife said. Seldanna excused herself to return to her room, shaking in fear as soon as she was alone and doing her best to calm herself from her interaction.
She prayed long and hard to Bahl that her secret to doing the greater good would not become her or her family’s undoing and that Bezel’s knowledge of her personal involvement was limited and unusable against her….
